Coco 2 is coming – Get ready for a brand new fiesta of music

If you’ve ever ugly-cried to Coco (don’t lie, we all did), then grab some tissues because Coco 2 is officially happening! Pixar and Disney have finally confirmed that our favorite land-of-the-dead adventure is getting a sequel. And honestly? I am so ready to sob my heart out again.

I still remember the first time I watched Coco—not just anywhere, but at the office of The Walt Disney Company in Hoofddorp (in The Netherlands). (Yes, it was as magical as it sounds!) I laughed, I cried, and I walked out feeling like I had just experienced something truly special.

Now, years later, knowing that Coco 2 is coming makes my Disney-loving heart so happy. Whether it makes us laugh, cry, or both at the same time (most likely), I know one thing for sure: it’s going to be worth the wait.

The big announcement

Disney CEO Bob Iger dropped the bombshell during the Annual Meeting of Shareholders on March 20, 2025. While details are still a bit hush-hush, we do know that Coco 2 is in the works and set to release in 2029. Yes, I know. That’s basically a lifetime away. But if waiting means getting another masterpiece, I’ll (im)patiently count down the days.

The dream team returns

The magic-makers behind Coco are back! Directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina are leading the project, with Mark Nielsen (Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2) producing. If that doesn’t scream “this is going to be amazing,” I don’t know what does.

What’s next for Miguel?

Plot details? Nada. But we can make some educated guesses! The first movie wrapped up beautifully, with Miguel embracing his musical destiny and his family finally accepting it. So, where does Coco 2 go from here?

  • A teenage Miguel chasing his musical dreams?

  • A new journey to the Land of the Dead?

  • A mysterious new character who changes everything?

  • Dante, our favorite goofy alebrije dog, getting even MORE screentime? (Please, Pixar. We beg.)

Fans have feelings about it

As expected, the internet is exploding with opinions. Some fans are hyped, ready to relive the magic and sing along to another banger soundtrack. Others are nervous, wondering if a sequel could ever live up to the original’s perfection. Personally? I’m just excited to see what Pixar cooks up. I trust them with Coco 2.

What do you think about Coco 2? Excited? Nervous? Already stocking up on tissues? Let me know in the comments!
